More than 500 volunteers participated in Saturday's Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful Annual Truckee River Cleanup, working at 26 sites throughout the Truckee River watershed.
Volunteers picked up trash, removed weeds, stenciled storm drains and tackled several park beautification projects at 26 sites to help keep litter and hazardous items out of the river.
KTMB released some preliminary results of this year's cleanup:
- More than 60 tons of trash removed, including 2,500 pounds from the river itself
- More than 55.5 tons of weeds and green waste removed
- 201 storm drains stenciled
- 7 trees planted
- 171 plants planted
- 115 yards of mulch spread at various parks
