5 P.M. UPDATE

A man has been arrested on allegations of larceny and hit-and-run following a series of incidents resulting in hazmat spills on Friday afternoon.

According to a spokesperson with the Reno Police Department a man borrowed a friend's truck. That truck was full of 55 gallon drums of lacquer thinner.

The person driving the van allegedly committed larceny at the CVS on West 7th Street and while fleeing the scene lacquer fell out of the back of the van. Either a drum of lacquer or the van itself hit a car in the CVS parking lot before the person fled.

Police tracked down the driver and arrested them on larceny and hit-and-run charges.

The Reno Fire Department will clean up the lacquer spills.

Multiple units of the Reno Fire Department are on the scene of a hazardous material spill at The View Luxury Apartments in northeast Reno.

According to video obtained by our team, it appears that a work van attempted to back out of a parking spot at the apartments with its rear doors open.

Making an abrupt stop, what appears to be a couple steel drums, some 5-gallon buckets, and some other supplies fall out of the back of the van, spilling all over the pavement.

Some of the materials appear to be marked as flammable.

This is a developing story; we will provide updates as we receive them.
