A man died early Monday morning when he fell after he and a companion illegally jumped onto a train in Elko County.

In a post on their Facebook page, the Elko County Sheriff's Office says James "Ivy" Woods of Shreveport, Louisiana, and a woman identified only as Emma jumped onto a train near Elko that was heading to Utah.

The Sheriff's Office got a call from Emma around 4:35 a.m., wherein she said she fell asleep once on the train, and when she woke up, Woods was missing.

Sheriff's deputies and personnel from the Union Pacific Railroad began a search of the area where Woods might have fallen from the train.

Around 6:35 a.m., a railroad employee found Woods' body on the tracks near Wells.

The Sheriff's Office says Woods was hit by the train as he fell off, suffering fatal injuries.

He was 24 years old.
