A man arrested in August in Florida on a fraud warrant out of Storey County was extradited on Thursday.
In May of this year, Storey County Sheriff’s Office detectives were alerted to a significant fraud case in the Virginia City Highlands.
A woman reported that over the course of several weeks, suspects purporting to be FBI agents came to her home and took a significant amount of money from her, threatening to arrest her if she did not cooperate with them.
Investigators identified suspects in the case, determining them to be from Florida.
Nationwide warrants were issued for the suspects, and in August, law enforcement officials in Key West, Florida, notified the Storey County Sheriff’s Office that one suspect, Jeoffrey White, was arrested on the Virginia Township Justice Court warrant and local marijuana charges.
On Thursday, October 16, Storey County Sheriff’s Office detectives travelled to Florida and extradited White to Storey County, where he was booked into the Storey County Detention Facility.
A detention hearing was held at the Virginia Township Justice Court on Friday, October 17, and White's bail was raised to $200,000.
