Marcolino's Italia is relocating and moving into the former location of an iconic restaurant that closed its doors years ago.
Their new location is in Midtown Reno on the corner of South Wells Avenue and Vesta Street. Some folks may recognize this as the former home to Rapscallion before they shut down during the COVID pandemic.
Contractors are working on renovations to get the place opened up as soon as possible.
Marco, the owner, says they're really excited to move from downtown Reno into such a well-known building like this one.
"It's the most iconic building in our city's history," he said. "Everyone knows this going way back to 1977 when the Rapscallion first opened, and so after all those years and then them shutting down, and me being able to take it over in my name is pretty cool."
But it's not just the building's history Marco is excited about. It's also more spacious, allowing more families to dine in, with three private dining rooms, a private parking lot with no meters, and two kitchens.
General Manager Bill Green says that within the first five months of opening their food truck, Marcolino's Italia made $280,000 in revenue. Ever since then, it's been a growing, successful business.
He says he's excited to take advantage of the new opportunities this location allows.
"It gives us the private dining rooms, the capability to be lunch and dinner, our food truck to go out more, as well as do more catering and accept more of the catering," he said. "That way we can hit masses not only in the Reno area but the surrounding areas that we can't touch."
Marcolino's Italia's new location is expected to be open by December.
