The Storey County Sheriff's Office is notifying the public of a mountain lion sighting at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. 

The Nevada Department of Wildlife wants to remind the public that mountain lions are native to Nevada and can occasionally be found near communities, industrial areas and other developed landscapes. While sightings can be surprising, NDOW says the big cats generally avoid people.

NDOW offers these tips if you see one:

* Do not run if you encounter a mountain lion.

* Make yourself appear larger.

* Maintain eye contact and slowly back away.

* Pick up small children immediately.

* Never approach a mountain lion, especially one feeding or with kittens.

If you see a mountain lion in a residential area, report it to the Nevada Department of Wildlife dispatch line at (775) 688-1331.
