Drivers who travel on US 395 to the North Valleys should expect to see some changes in construction soon. Starting Wednesday evening through Thursday morning NDOT will be shifting lanes for traffic.
"We have completed the first major phase of construction," said Meg Ragonese, public information officer for NDOT. "Crews have actually placed about 40,000 square yards of new concrete on the right-hand lanes of what will be new northbound lanes of 395."
Construction will remain still down to two lanes from north of Oddie Boulevard to Panther Valley. However, there is good news for drivers who travel to Dandini Boulevard.
Starting Thursday morning NDOT will reopen the northbound on and offramps to Dandini. They had been closed since early July while crews realigned and repaved the ramps.
But more ramp closures are starting next week further north.
Starting around next Monday, the northbound onramp from North Virginia to 395, and the offramp on 395 to Panther Valley will be closed for construction of a new ramp.
"That new future braided ramp will actually carry North Valley traffic over the Panther Valley ramp and area to Golden Valley," said Ragonese. "It will reduce congestion and backups onto the highway, provide a safer more efficient drive on 395."
NDOT says drivers should slow down to 55 miles per hour and continue to use caution through the construction zone.
