Nevada’s appellate courts are investigating a data security incident involving West Publishing Corporation, the company that provides the C-Track case management system used by the courts.
The incident affected part of the vendor’s information technology environment and did not originate from Nevada court networks or systems. The Nevada Administrative Office of the Courts said a preliminary investigation has found no evidence that Nevada’s C-Track environment was accessed or compromised.
Court services have not been disrupted, and users can continue using the case management system as usual.
The affected vendor system contained select database backup files. Nevada court officials are working with West Publishing to determine what information may have been accessed.
West Publishing also notified numerous other states, U.S. territories and Canadian provinces that use C-Track. Officials said the type and amount of data potentially accessed varies by jurisdiction.
If the vendor determines that information belonging to specific people was affected, West Publishing and/or Nevada’s appellate courts will issue notifications as appropriate.
Court officials said there is currently no evidence the incident resulted in fraudulent activity involving Nevada court users. Additional information will be released as the investigation continues.
