A new dog park and playground at Wilkinson Park will officially open during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday afternoon as the City of Reno celebrates the project's completion.
The ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, at Wilkinson Park, 1201 E. Taylor St. The first 50 people at the event will receive free paletas, courtesy of Vice Mayor Miguel Martinez.
"Our outdoor spaces play an important role in the quality of life for our Reno residents, and I’m pleased to see these upgrades at Wilkinson Park," Martinez said. "I encourage community members of all ages to visit the park and enjoy the new dog park and playground areas this summer and beyond."
Construction began in January 2026 and included replacing the entire playground with two new play structures, building separate dog park areas for small and large dogs, and installing concrete walking paths, benches, a dog water fountain, and new trash bins.
The improvements were included in the city's Fiscal Year 2025 Capital Improvement Plan with a combined project budget of about $1.26 million. Funding came through a Community Development Block Grant and Residential Construction Tax funds.
