A semi-truck driver is dead after a multi-car crash on I-80 west before Lovelock early Wednesday morning.

The crash happened between Lovelock and the U.S. 95 junction, near mile marker 88, just before 1 a.m.

NHP says a preliminary investigation shows a box semi-truck, loaded with pet food, was heading west on I-80 when it hit an SUV stopped on one of the lanes. NHP says the truck went off the road, onto the shoulder and then overturned with its trailer blocking both lanes.

Then a subsequent tank semi-truck, loaded with milk, avoided the SUV, but hit the loaded overturned box trailer, severing it and also overturning itself.

NHP says the milk tank semi-truck driver died on scene while the other box semi-truck driver was pulled out by first responders after being trapped for several hours. He suffered serious injuries.

NHP says the SUV driver, also a man, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash impacted lanes on I-80 but has since fully reopened.
