Nighttime construction will begin on the Regional Transportation Commission’s (RTC) Mill Street Project beginning Monday at 7 p.m.

Drivers should expect single lane closures and some traffic signals operating in flashing red mode, creating a four-way stop condition.

Daytime construction will continue Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Crews are actively working on utility improvements during those hours.

According to RTC, the project will result in operational and safety upgrades to Mill Street.

One of the changes includes a new signalized intersection at Mill Street and Golden Lane, which is intended to enhance safety and traffic flow.

A map of all planned improvements is available for viewing and download at MillStreetWidening.com under the final design section.

RTC says that transit services will also be affected, and notes that the RTC RIDE stop at Mill Street and Matley Lane (serving Routes 12 and 14) is currently out of service.

They say that bus service within the project area may also be temporarily impacted, and that any changes to bus routes or stop locations will be posted in advance at the affected stops and at rtcwashoe.com/alerts.

During construction, a minimum of one paved lane in each direction will remain open, and left turn lanes will be maintained at all signalized intersections.

Some traffic operations may result in short delays.

Business access will be maintained throughout the project.

However, temporary driveway closures lasting an hour or more may occur during specific construction activities.  RTC says advance notice will be provided for any driveway closures.

For safety, on-street parking will not be allowed within the active construction zones.Â
