A trailer carrying an oil and water mixture tipped over and detached from the truck pulling it Tuesday on southbound U.S. 395 in Douglas County, spilling about 50 gallons across both lanes and the median.
The incident happened at mile marker 29. The large truck was pulling a single-axle oil tank that was just over half-full when, for an unknown reason, the trailer began swerving behind the truck.
The trailer eventually tipped over and detached from the truck, causing the oil and water mixture to leak onto the highway.
The Nevada Department of Transportation is on scene with sand trucks to clean up and mitigate the spill.
Southbound traffic is being escorted through on the right shoulder while crews work.
The southbound lanes are expected to remain closed for roughly another hour for cleanup. Crews will then move to the northbound side and close the fast lane to clean up there, which is expected to take another hour.
