A woman is dead after a single-car rollover crash on Interstate 80 east of Battle Mountain. Â
Troopers with the Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Division responded around 1:41 p.m. Tuesday, to a reported crash on I-80 near mile marker 1 in Eureka County, about 21 miles east of Battle Mountain.
According to a preliminary investigation, a green Mazda Tribute was traveling westbound in the fast lane when it failed to maintain its lane and drifted into the dirt center median. The driver then steered right, sending the car back across the fast lane and into the slow lane. Troopers say the driver then made a hard steering movement to the left, and the car traveled back into the median, where it overturned.
The car came to rest on its wheels, facing east in the median.
The driver, identified as 60-year-old Traci Lynette Edgington of Crescent Valley, was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered life-threatening injuries. She was taken to Battle Mountain General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Troopers say the crash remains under investigation by the Major Incident Reconstruction Team.
