The South Tahoe Public Utility District said that early Sunday morning, about five to 10 gallons of sewage spilled into Fallen Leaf Lake.

It says the spillage was due to a broken valve at a sewer pump station.

The valve has since been repaired, the site was cleaned up and spill signs have been placed around the area.

Later Sunday, water samples were collected from six locations around Fallen Leaf Lake near the spill site. Ammonia, which is the main indicator of sewage in water, was not detected at any of the sites.
