Skier found dead at NorthStar

The missing skier was found dead on the advanced Sugar Pine Glade trail. Northstar says he was an employee of the resort who was off duty at the time of the incident.

It's still unclear how the skier died.

A search team found a missing skier dead at Northstar California Resort.

On Wednesday, February 18, at approximately 11 p.m., Placer County deputies located the car of the missing 21-year-old man.

According to deputies, in an online post, they determined the skier was missing and immediately started investigating. Deputies say he went skiing and did not return as expected.

Officials say the Placer County Office of Emergency Management lieutenant quickly gathered resources and started a search.

The Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue Team were activated early Thursday morning, with 15 skiers, a snowcat, and two snowmobilers all aiding in the search of the area. Northstar Ski Patrol members also assisted in the search, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

On Thursday at 9 a.m., the search team found the man dead. It's unclear what the cause of the death is.

Placer County Sheriff's Office says, "We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time."
