Smokey Bear’s 82nd birthday will be celebrated with a public event Sunday, August 9, at the Tallac Historic Site’s Baldwin Museum on the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.
The U.S. Forest Service and Great Basin Institute partners are hosting the birthday bash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event will include photo opportunities, a chance to sign a birthday card, group book readings, opportunities to meet firefighters, and cake.
For more than 80 years, Smokey Bear has shared a wildfire prevention message with generations of forest visitors. His message, “Only you can prevent wildfires,” is part of the longest-running public service announcement campaign in U.S. history.
