The Sparks Fire Department is partnering with the Nevada Humane Society for its first pet food drive.

Donation bins will be placed at the front of each of the six Sparks Fire stations and will be available during daylight hours from May 1 through May 31. A full list of station locations can be found by clicking here.

The drive aims to help the Nevada Humane Society meet critical needs by collecting essential supplies for animals in its care.

Sparks Fire is also working with the Nevada Humane Society using pet microchip scanners to help identify lost pets and reunite them with their owners.

Accepted items include dry dog food, dry cat food, high-quality treats (especially soft, meaty varieties, and canned pumpkin purée (not pumpkin pie filling).

Items that will not be accepted include used bedding, blankets, comforters, or pillows, any medications, and sugar-free peanut butter.

Donors are asked not to park in front of the fire station bay doors to ensure crews can respond quickly to emergencies.

For those unable to drop off donations in person, contributions can be made online at the Nevada Humane Society’s website.
