Last Friday, May 29, students at North Tahoe High School took part in the Every 15 Minutes program presented by CHP Truckee and the Placer County Sheriff's Office.

According to CHP Truckee in an online post, the two-day program focuses on high school juniors and seniors and is designed to challenge students to think about drinking and driving, personal safety, and the responsibility of making mature decisions. Officials said the program also highlights how individual choices can impact families, friends, the community, and many others.

The program uses a staged crash scenario that is described as dramatic and emotional, with officials saying that is intentional. The goal is to show students they are not invincible and to create awareness of how their actions can affect the lives of others.

Officials emphasized the program brings together law enforcement, hospitals, emergency responders, schools, businesses, and service groups to help reduce alcohol-related incidents among young drivers, especially ahead of graduation season and other celebrations.

“The decision takes seconds. The consequences can last a lifetime. Choose wisely.”
