United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra is partnering with Airbnb.orgto provide free emergency housing to people displaced by the Hawk Fire in Reno.
The partnership is intended to connect people affected by the fire with temporary housing as they begin the recovery process. UWNNS is identifying eligible residents, including families whose homes are within an evacuation zone or whose structures have been lost or damaged.
Eligible residents receive credits from Airbnb.org that can be used to book an Airbnb.org stay that meets their needs.
“This is what happens when communities in Northern Nevada come together to help in the midst of a crisis,” said Blake, President and CEO of UWNNS. “Families impacted by the Hawk Fire are dealing with an incredible amount of uncertainty right now, and having a comfortable place to sleep should not be one more thing they have to worry about. We are incredibly grateful to Airbnb.org for stepping up and helping us provide immediate, meaningful support to families who need it.”
Christoph Gorder, executive director of Airbnb.org, said temporary housing can give people displaced by the fire a place to stay while they work toward longer-term recovery plans.
“Beyond providing a roof and four walls, having a comfortable place to call home can help people recover after a disaster. That’s why we’re partnering with United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra to provide free temporary housing for residents displaced by the Hawk Fire,” said Christoph Gorder, Executive Director of Airbnb.org. “Our partnership will enable individuals and families to find the comforts of home as they work toward longer-term recovery plans.”
UWNNS is also working with community partners to connect affected people and families with other resources and support following the fire. Those partners include Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada, Nevada 211, American Red Cross of Northern Nevada, Washoe County School District Family Resource Centers and Scouting America Nevada Area Council.
People affected by the fire are encouraged to fill out the form as soon as possible to help get them situated in a home that meets their needs.
To apply for Hawk Fire emergency housing, people can sign up through the UWNNS website.
