Nevada’s oldest university now has the newest logo in the state.

The University of Nevada, Reno unveiled its new logo, cut the ribbon on its new fieldhouse, and announced expansion plans at the 2026 State of the University Address.

New brand identity

The new UN mark incorporates the Nevada state outline in the negative space and includes the star from the state flag to represent Reno.

Athletic Director Stephanie Rempe says the logo will be rolled out quickly to Wolf Pack teams.

“We will have a logo on the football helmets on Saturday,” she says. “You saw our cheerleaders got the shirts. And then I think both of our basketball teams, each one of them has a uniform, will have the new logo on that."

University President Brian Sandoval says the new visual identity addresses issues with brand recognition outside of the state and highlights the school's spirit.

“We went through like 30 iterations before we went to that and we wanted to get it right,” he says, “and I think this logo really captures the spirit of the Wolf Pack.”

During the address, Sandoval said brand research showed few people outside of Nevada recognized the Block N as the university's logo.

Fieldhouse now open

The other big item at Tuesday's State of the University: the Wolf Pack Fieldhouse is now open.

The school says the new 72,000-square-foot facility has something for all 17 athletic programs and the student body.

Dillon Moss presides over the Associated Students of the University of Nevada.

“ASUN is a big event programmer on campus, and so we're very excited to see what opportunities we could use this space for,” he says.

Other announcements

Also at the address, Sandoval announced that a cohort of 16 nursing students will study at the University’s Lake Tahoe campus to address the nursing shortage in rural Nevada, starting in January 2027.

There are plans to expand to 64 students by 2029.

The school also plans to purchase the Walgreens south of campus to expand the university's footprint, pending approval from Nevada System of Higher Education regents. The store will vacate next year.

Sandoval announced crews are making good progress on the GSR Arena, with a ribbon-cutting set for the 2028-2029 basketball season.

The school has plans to break ground on the Davidson Life Science Building in January 2028.

Other upcoming projects include a new parking garage near the Davidson Math & Science Center, a hotel next to the John Tulloch Business Building, and widening of the Evans Avenue overpass to accommodate a pedestrian bridge.

The Davidson Academy, a top 5 high school nationally, will move into a new building next to the university’s engineering and science complex.

The Jot Travis Building, where the high school currently is, will return to university use.
