Faith-Based Organizations are once again joining together to continue cleanup efforts for victims of the Hawk Fire.

It's happening Saturday, October 24 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Last Saturday, approximately 150 volunteers representing 18 churches helped clean up 10 home sites damaged by the Hawk Fire. Organizers hope to build on that momentum with another community-wide volunteer effort this Saturday.

If you'd like to help, meet at the Krone Company parking lot at 9515 North Virginia Street at the corner of Virginia and Seneca at 8 a.m.

Volunteers must sign a waiver and are encouraged to bring tools and wear sturdy, protective clothing. Masks, gloves, snacks and drinks will be provided.

Volunteers and community organizations are coming together Saturday to help clean up properties belonging to homeowners who lost their homes in the Hawk Fire.

The fire burned from Aug. 22 to Sept. 9, destroying 47 homes and multiple other buildings.

Volunteers will check in at the Krone Company parking lot at the corner of North Virginia and Seneca streets before being assigned to designated cleanup sites.

“When our neighbors lose everything, the whole community feels it. This is our chance to show up with work gloves and open hearts and help these families take the first step toward rebuilding,” said Pam Alvey, mercy ministries director at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring any tools they have and wear sturdy, protective clothing. Masks, gloves, snacks and drinks will be provided.

The cleanup effort is supported by Catholic Charities, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, the KT Grace Foundation, Washoe County Disaster Relief and One Voice Nevada, along with 25 other churches and philanthropic organizations.

Those interested in volunteering can contact Pastor Angelo Austria at 775-830-0653.
