Washoe County Commissioners will again discuss the budget for next fiscal year at a later date, after commissioners called today's presentation from the manager's office "vague" and "confusing."

Library funds were a big part of today's conversations.

We heard from a lot of neighbors during the meeting about what they would like to see moving forward.

During public comment, one citizen said, "The library is an essential service for so many of your constituents of all ages. And while I prefer to support increases to the library budget, I am here to support level funding for fiscal year [20]26."

"We have to look at our budget in a whole, and stop burdening taxpayers who cannot afford to live in the area with their families anymore," said another concerned local.

As for where things stand now, the recommended budget for the library is to stay flat - meaning no reductions or increases.

What's left from the library fund expansion balance will also be spent in the next fiscal year.

Some with the library's board of trustees told commissioners they still have questions over how to move forward.

One trustee spoke in front of the commission, saying, "I'll be the first trustee to admit I need a better understanding on how to reconcile our budget and county budget, when balanced against the needs of our libraries to serve all our residents as desired and intended."

Commissioners have agreed to meet again at a later date when more details could be provided - not just for the library, but for all categories involved.
