WCSD trick or treaters

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is joining law enforcement agencies across the state for a pedestrian safety campaign running through Halloween.

The Joining Forces campaign runs October 13th through the 31st, with deputies increasing traffic enforcement to improve pedestrian safety and raise driver awareness.

With Halloween approaching, the Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers to slow down in residential neighborhoods and watch for children who may be trick-or-treating. The sheriff's office released the following reminders:

Pedestrian Safety Reminders:

  • Use sidewalks whenever available and cross streets at designated crosswalks or intersections.
  • Wear bright or reflective clothing, especially during evening hours.
  • Stay alert and avoid distractions, including cell phones, while walking.
  • Never assume a driver sees you. Make sure vehicles have stopped before crossing.

Motorist Safety Reminders:

  • Slow down and remain especially alert in residential neighborhoods and areas with increased pedestrian traffic.
  • Eliminate distractions and keep your attention on the road.
  • Yield to pedestrians at crosswalks and intersections.
  • Use extra caution during evening hours when visibility is reduced and children may be trick-or-treating.
