A Washoe County Sheriff's Office drone helped deputies find a suspected DUI driver after a disturbance was reported at a Burger King in Spanish Springs.
WCSO dispatch received a report of a man causing a disturbance at the restaurant who appeared intoxicated and smelled of alcohol. As deputies responded, a drone was also sent to the area.
From the air, the pilot located the suspect's truck in the drive-through. When the truck left the restaurant and headed into a nearby neighborhood, the pilot provided deputies with real-time location information to deputies.
Deputies stopped the driver, 70-year-old Steven Goicoechea. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The sheriff's office says the coordination between deputies and the drone program allows for faster, more informed responses while giving deputies enhanced situational awareness.
