Wind gusts on Wednesday brought chain controls, power outages, and even a snapped power pole.

A power pole near Mt. Rose was completely snapped at its base by the wind, held up only by the power lines attached to it.

The property owner where the snap occurred said it happened around 7:30 a.m.

If the lines were to snap, there are concerns they could fall and ignite the dried brush at the base of the pole.

NV Energy has tips for staying safe if you see a downed power line.

They say move to a safe distance while shuffling your feet at least 35 feet away from the downed line or anything it may be touching.

Do not touch another person who is touching or near the line.

If you're in a car, do not drive over downed power lines, and if your car comes in contact with a downed line, it is best to stay in the car and call for help.

If you must exit the car, jump clear of the vehicle, and once again shuffle your feet 35 feet away from the car and the line.

If you see a downed line, call 911 immediately, then notify NV Energy.
