A teacher at Yerington Intermediate School has been arrested amid allegations that he provided falsified government documents and had ammunition delivered to the school.
On Friday, October 16, 61-year-old Steven Ray Farwell was arrested after an investigation into allegations that he knowingly provided false residential information on multiple government documents, including his Nevada driver's license and voter registration, according to a release from the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation began on Thursday, October 15, when a School Resource Officer assigned to Yerington Intermediate School was contacted by the school's administration about a package delivered to the school addressed to Farwell that contained around 400 rounds of rifle ammunition.
Deputies learned in the course of their investigation that Farwell had been using the school's physical address as his personal residence on official government documents, despite not living at the school.
School officials said that Farwell had previously been told not to use the school's address for personal mail or deliveries.
Additional investigation found that Farwell had listed the school's address as his residence on multiple official documents and applications. Deputies also discovered discrepancies in his reported residential history and determined that he had registered to vote in Lyon County using an address where he did not live.
Farwell acknowledged using the school's address but declined to provide investigators with a verifiable residential address, according to the LCSO's release. He additionally said that he lived in the Topaz area of Douglas County but would not provide his specific location.
Farwell was arrested and booked into the Lyon County Jail on felony charges including forgery, perjury, and unlawful acts regarding voter registration. He was also booked on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing a public officer.
His bail was set at $13,641.
