Update (11/18, 11:23 a.m.):

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office says they have confirmed that some human remains found earlier this year are those of Richard Shifflet.

75-year old Shifflet of Dayton was reported missing in October of 2022.

On May of this year, hikers discovered potential human remains in a remote area near U.S. Highway 50 and Baldwin Lane in Dayton.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office and Nevada State Police Investigations Division teamed up for an investigation to process the scene and collect evidence.

The remains were moved to the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's Office, where they were inspected.

On November 14, the office received DNA confirmation that the remains were those of Mr. Shifflet.

At this time, no foul play is suspected - the cause and manner of death are still under investigation by the Medical Examiner's office.

Anyone with information on this matter is encouraged to call the Lyon County Sheriff's Office at (775) 463-6600.
