Siaosi Vanisi

The man convicted of murdering UNR Officer George Sullivan in 1998 has died in custody.

The Nevada Department of Corrections says 53-year-old Siaosi Vanisi died on October 26th at University Medical Center in Las Vegas. 

Vanisi was serving a death sentence at High Desert State Prison for murder in the first degree, use of deadly weapon enhancement, grand larceny  and robbery.

He came to the NDOC on Nov. 2, 1999, from Washoe County. 

Vanisi was found guilty of murdering University of Nevada, Reno Police Sgt. George Sullivan as he was filling out paperwork in his cruiser on the campus just north of downtown, in January 1998. 

The native Tongan also was convicted of robbing a convenience store with Sullivan's service revolver before he was arrested during a standoff with a SWAT team in Salt Lake City.
