Many floral deliveries are expected for Mother's Day, which means our local flower shops are hard at work.
Mother's Day is the second busiest time of year for Sparks Florist, with Valentine's Day being the first.
"We've had a really busy week. We'll be busy all weekend and probably doing 1500 deliveries. So, making a lot of moms in the Reno/Sparks area happy," said Suzanne Shepherd, the Director of Client Services at Sparks Florist.
She also mentions how special receiving flowers can be. "I think everybody loves to get flowers, because if you get flowers, you know that somebody loves you, right? They're thinking of you. It's a natural way to express an emotion, and who better than your mom?"
Shepherd says they personalize every bouquet to make sure the arrangement is extra special for the one receiving the flowers. She says they have a collection for people to choose from and that they curate arrangements for special holidays to choose from such as Valentine's Day or Mother's Day.
She says they also call it "Mother's Week" because flower orders will trickle in throughout the week. They usually see over 1,500 orders, and about 500 more arrangements bought by people in person at the shops.
She says they also have 20 delivery drivers helping them get all their deliveries to mothers on time.
"This is an amazing job because you pretty much get paid to make people happy," she mentions. "What's not great about that? That's what flowers are. They show an emotion that you want to say. So, we're really lucky to be in this industry and we love it. We love this time of year."
Shepherd says they're still taking orders for Mother's Day, but to remember, "Even if you're a day late or two that's ok because it's your mom and your mother will always forgive you. So, she'll just be happy you remembered her and that's the great thing about moms, right?"
