Amazon Plane Overruns Runway

Authorities say at least five people are dead after an Amazon cargo plane barreled off a Miami airport runway and smashed into cars. The plane overran a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday. Flights were paused at the busy travel hub. Plumes of black smoke poured from the plane. The Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft was heading into Florida from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Videos and images showed the plane stopped beyond the airport runway as smoke billowed into the air. The Prime Air plane came to rest at the northwest end of the airport.

Federal investigators are trying to determine what caused an Amazon cargo jet to barrel off a runway at Miami International Airport, killing at least five people and injuring five others as it struck vehicles and was engulfed in flames. The aircraft overran the runway Sunday afternoon after arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico. It plowed across a road used by warehouse workers and other businesses that surround the airport. Five people were killed, three critically injured and two others hospitalized with less severe injuries. It wasn’t immediately clear if the pilots survived or those killed were all in vehicles when the plane struck. The National Transportation Safety Board plans to hold a news conference Monday.
