President Donald Trump is defending his Iran war strategy, attacking critics and skeptics on Monday as “TRAITORS, ALL” after a second round of talks with Iran were thrown into doubt by the U.S. Navy’s seizure of an Iranian-flagged cargo ship near the Strait of Hormuz. It was the first such interception since the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports began last week, and Iran’s military vowed to respond. Trump said Vice President JD Vance would be going Monday to Islamabad, where Pakistani officials were preparing a venue, but Iranians made no commitment to more talks. Trump later said he's highly unlikely renew the ceasefire before it expires Wednesday.

Trump made a series of media interviews and social media posts on Monday, insisting he’s in no rush to end the war while also expressing confidence that peace negotiations with Tehran will soon resume in Pakistan. A two-week ceasefire between the two countries is set to expire on Wednesday. Trump said he expects the negotiation team lead by Vice President JD Vance to return to Pakistan for more talks. Iran has said there are no plans yet to attend the talks with the United States.

Trump has indicated that he still expects to dispatch his negotiating team, led by Vice President JD Vance, to Pakistan’s capital of Islamabad for talks. Iran insists it would not take part in talks until the U.S. leader dialed back his demands.
