Volunteers rescue climber stranded on small ledge in California's Sierra Nevada

Volunteers rescued a climber who was stranded on a ledge in the Sierra Nevada in an operation that spanned more than 15 hours. The Mono County Sheriff Search and Rescue Team says four people carried out the rescue a week ago to reach the climber who got off route. Mitchell Quiring is a spokesperson for the team and one of the rescuers. He says the challenge came in having no time to spare with thousands of feet of vertical exposure below. The team says any fall would almost certainly be fatal. Quiring says the climber had only one foot fully on the ledge and repeatedly switched from one leg to the other to avoid getting tired.
