A man who spent decades on Utah's death row has been released after prosecutors said newly analyzed DNA evidence doesn't link him to a 1985 killing. A judge ordered 71-year-old Douglas Stewart Carter released hours after a bond hearing Monday. Carter is required to wear a GPS monitor while he awaits a retrial. Prosecutors say they'll no longer seek the death penalty. A jury had convicted Carter of killing Eva Olesen, the aunt of a former Provo police chief. Carter has maintained his innocence and says an alleged confession was coerced. The Utah Supreme Court ordered a new trial last year, citing misconduct by investigators.
