Stocks were nearly evenly split between gainers and losers. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 43 points and the Nasdaq composite rose 0.1%. BlackRock surged after becoming the latest financial company to report a bigger profit for the latest quarter than analysts expected. Several big tech companies fell and checked gains elsewhere.
