Cyclone Arnab has dumped heavy rain across India’s eastern Andhra Pradesh state, causing extensive damage in some areas after tens of thousands of people were evacuated. Prakhar Jain, head of the state’s disaster management authority, said on Wednesday that the cyclone weakened slightly before making landfall but brought heavy rainfall to several coastal districts. No casualties have been reported. Officials said wind speeds reached up to 135 kph. The cyclone left a trail of destruction in the Konaseema district, uprooting trees and electricity poles. The India Meteorological Department said heavy rainfall and strong winds would continue in coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and parts of southern Odisha state.
