A judge declared a mistrial in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial Friday after jurors said they could not reach a unanimous verdict on whether she was criminally responsible when she strangled her three young children. The mistrial, reached after seven days of deliberations, leaves the case unresolved and allows prosecutors to try Clancy again. The judge set a hearing for Sept. 29. Clancy's defense appealed after the judge refused to question a juror who — according to the jury foreperson — wasn't following the judge's instructions about reasonable doubt. But a state supreme court justice let the mistrial stand. Clancy remains charged with murder and confined to a psychiatric hospital.
