Residents pull a newly installed zipline to help people commute across the Trishuli river in the aftermath of flash floods at Bidur in Nepal's Nuwakot district, Nepal, Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026.
Some tourists previously reported missing in Nepal have made contact with authorities, officials said Wednesday. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said five Australians were confirmed safe overnight, reducing the number of missing Australians to 38. Meanwhile, some families of people still missing in Nuwakot, one of the worst-affected districts, held symbolic funerals for their loved ones, hoping to set their souls free. Search efforts continue after last week’s floods, which killed at least 1,204 people and left more than 4,200 missing. Nepal’s Foreign Ministry said 324 foreign nationals have been rescued, while about 590 from 39 countries remain unaccounted for.
