UPDATE

A man armed with a rifle rammed a vehicle into a major synagogue in a Detroit suburb and was fatally shot by security, a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press on Thursday. The vehicle caught fire after the crash, the person said.

No other injuries were reported.

Authorities are working to identify the man and determine a possible motive. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss details of the investigation, which remains in its early stages.

FBI Director Kash Patel said agents were responding to what he described as an “apparent vehicle ramming and active shooter situation” at the synagogue.

The Jewish Federation of Detroit advised Jewish organizations in the area to follow lockout protocols.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said authorities were clearing the building.
