Elon Musk sent dozens of self-driving Cybercabs missing steering wheels and brake pedals onto Austin, Texas, streets Thursday in a bet Americans will get over their fears of “no control” rides and hop inside. The rollout of the gold-colored Teslas with no way to take over in an emergency comes as the company prepares to launch the service in other cities. Tesla shares have dropped amid a slump in vehicle sales, but they rose more than 5% Thursday on hopes the taxis will catch on fast.
