Civilians in Ukraine's Kherson region are preparing for the end of a localized ceasefire. The truce was brokered with help from U.S. first lady Melania Trump and ends Sunday evening. It allowed evacuations in Oleshky. About 2,000 civilians were in Oleshky when the truce began. They could evacuate to Ukrainian or Russian-controlled areas or remain with replenished supplies. Russian and Ukrainian drone attacks continue meanwhile. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia targets Ukraine's energy systems. That has left many without power. The local theater continues performances in Kherson to offer hope and unity.
Ukrainian authorities say 26 people have been killed in Russian bomb attacks on an aid distribution center and neighboring shelter in southern Ukraine. The attacks came after a limited ceasefire expired Monday in Ukraine’s southern Kherson region. The ceasefire agreement between Ukraine and Russia had allowed humanitarian aid and evacuation missions into front-line areas in Russian-occupied territory. Earlier in the day, Ukraine and Russia reported cyberattacks on their emergency alert apps. In Ukraine, users received false warnings of dangerously high radiation levels, a chemical threat and public disturbances in Kyiv. Russian officials said hackers had sent fake alerts through its emergency ministry’s app.
