Three Washoe County teachers are being honored with a national award from the White House for excellence in teaching.
The Presidential Award for Excellent in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) announced winners for the years 2021-2023 earlier this month.
Harvest Tossava was announced as a winner for the year 2021. Tossava has been a middle school math teacher with Traner Middle School and most recently Sky Ranch Middle School, where she is currently acting as a home visit coordinator.
Anna Gardikiotis was announced as a 2022 winner of the award. Gardikiotis currently teaches at Mamie Towles Elementary School, and will serve as the Instructional Coach at Desert Heights Elementary School next year.
Denise Trakas was also announced as a winner of the award. Trakas currently teaches at Vaughn Middle School, and serves as the Instructional Coach and Leader for the math department. Prior to her math focus, she taught at Hunsberger and Van Gorder Elementary Schools.
