The Nevada Women's Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women, has announced the death of one of their co-founders.
The organization posted a memoriam to their X account, saying that co-founder Barbara Thornton had been a lifelong advocate for equality, education and empowerment.
Thornton co-founded the Nevada Women's Fund 42 years ago with Lynne Atcheson and Maya Miller - 2 News Nevada sat down for a Someone 2 Know segment two years ago during the organization's 40th anniversary.
Along with her husband William, she also helped to establish the University of Nevada, Reno's Thornton Peace Prize, which is awarded annually.
