The American Red Cross of Northern Nevada will be able to help families protect themselves from fire thanks to a generous grant.

The organization received $19,000, which they will use to provide and install free smoke detectors across northern and rural Nevada.

The money was given to the Red Cross of Northern Nevada as part of their "Home Fire Campaign."

Volunteers for the organization have installed over 500 smoke alarms in homes across the region.
