Scam Alert

The Storey County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a scam going around.

The scammer called the victim and pretended to be a family member, the granddaughter of the victim.

The scammer claimed they were calling from the jail after being involved in a crash and getting hurt. They also said the other person involved in the accident was pregnant and was taken to the hospital.

The scammer then provided the name of an attorney and a case number and asked the victim to call the attorney.

The victim said that although the caller sounded like his granddaughter, when he called her, she confirmed that it was not her and was in fact a scam.

If you have received a call like this or believe you may have been the victim of a scam, please call the Storey County Sheriff's Office Dispatch at (775) 847-0950.
