On Thursday, the Reno Housing Authority (RHA) Celebrated their 80th birthday.
The organization has been serving the community since 1943 and they're looking forward to serving the community for another 80 years.
Those at the RHA told us that the 80th celebration is important because it's a time to reflect on everything they've accomplished, as well as look forward to new ways they plan to expand the supply of housing for the community.
“We work every day, all of our 80 dedicated employees work every day with the goal of providing the best quality affordable housing that we can in our community and striving to figure out ways that we can expand and provide more services,” said Dr. Hilary Lopez, the Executive Director of the Reno Housing Authority.
The RHA told us that even if you don't currently need their services, they're still available.
“We’re here to be a community resource and we look forward to working with all of our partners, jurisdictions and community members to really help make our community and even better place to live,” Lopez said.
Lopez also invited landlords to support the RHA through the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program.
“If you’re a landlord — whether you have one unit, 100 units, 1,000 units reach out to us find out about our housing choice voucher program and how you can get involved with helping us increase the supply of affordable housing," Lopez said.
The RHA's mission is to provide safe affordable housing in diverse neighborhoods throughout the Truckee Meadows.
“It’s extremely important that we have housing for our community that's available for a wide range of our community members, and to make this a great place for everyone that wants to come and live in our community, raise families here, continue to live here and contribute to our area,” Lopez said.
