Friday night will be the last night of Artown; they say this year has gone amazingly and that the crowds have been off the charts.
Over at the Wild River Grille, the summer dinner concert series is happening starting at 6:30 tonight.
They say the energy has been incredible, and every year is different, so those who like to check out Artown will always find something new. But there is one thing they want to keep around, which is the Artown passport.
Beth Macmillan, the executive director of Artown, says, "So people took their passports to all these different events and got stamps. And we've spoken to people who have completed their passports, and they say they really were encouraged to go to other events, events and locations and venues that they never would have ordinarily attended."
With Artown, there are events ranging from big to small all month long.
"If you want to go to a park, it's the event. If you want to go to a theatre, there are so many pop-up venues and different kinds of venues. There's absolutely something for everyone, and most of our town is admission-free, which means it's available to everyone. People who maybe are on fixed incomes or could not afford to purchase a ticket."
Macmillan says these events are designed to bring the community together and experience different kinds of art.
"Reno. Art is everything, I believe. Everyone is an artist. We make our artistic decisions every single day of our lives. We wake up in the morning and we get dressed. That's an artistic decision. We maybe cook a meal for friends and family, and the way you lay it on the plate and the choices you make are artistic decisions. The way you decorate your house is an artistic decision. There is art in everybody's world, and for everybody to celebrate. Creativity and the arts just make us richer as people."
Each year, some people make very special memories they'll remember their whole lives with.
Macmillan gives us examples: "Somebody sent me a note yesterday. They have a friend that they met at an event, and she came in from outside of the area for the entire month of July, just to have July. There's apparently a couple who got married, and their honeymoon was to go to all these different art events."
