Walmart employees held a food drive to benefit the Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada on Saturday through the Walmart Heart program.
Walmart Heart is an outreach program focusing on community service.
The food drive took place at the Walmart Superstore at Damonte Ranch Parkway.
Residents were encouraged to donate non-perishable food items, which will be distributed by the St. Vincent's Food Pantry to local families.
The St. Vincent's Food Pantry serves about 35,000 people every month by providing pre-packaged food boxes with non-perishable foods.
“We could not be more grateful to Walmart for their ongoing commitment to supporting our mission,” said Marie Baxter, CEO of Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada.
“As we provide sustenance throughout the year, events like this food drive, held outside of the holiday season, allow us to connect with the community and share our story and mission. Being selected by Walmart Heart for this event holds a special significance for us.”
