The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a phone scam.
They say some people have been getting calls where the caller claims they are with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.Â
The scammer will then tell the victim they have missed a court date and are in contempt of court, in order to get money out of them. Sometimes they will try to meet with the victim in person while remaining on the phone.
The Washoe County Sheriff's Office reminds residents that if you receive a phone call like this, you should not give out any financial information or agree to meet anyone in person.Â
You should instead hang up immediately and make your family and friends aware of the scam. You can also contact the Sheriff's Office directly to make a report.
