The devastation caused by wildfires across Northern Nevada has left families facing enormous losses, and now the community is coming together to help.

Recent wildfires across Northern Nevada have destroyed and severely damaged homes and businesses, leaving families and the community facing the difficult process of recovery and rebuilding. The Hawk Fire alone resulted in 47 homes being completely destroyed and another 14 severely damaged, along with significant damage to a large commercial property.

On Friday, KTVN 2 News Nevada, Reno Media Group, Atlantis Casino Resort Spa and Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada are joining forces for the Wildfire Fund Drive, a special fundraising effort to support people affected by the fires.

The event will run from noon to 7 p.m. Friday, August 28, at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, with the collection set up in the west parking lot near the skywalk entrance along South Virginia Street.

Donating is designed to be easy. People can simply drive through the collection area and drop off cash, spare change or a check without having to leave their vehicle.

Checks should be made payable to Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada with “Fire Relief” written in the memo line.

For those who can't make it to the Atlantis, donations can also be made online through ccsnn.org, or by scanning the event's QR code.

Helping Our Neighbors

Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada will be on site throughout the event, helping collect donations and assisting with the effort to get resources where they are needed.

The organization works closely with other nonprofit organizations in the community, helping coordinate assistance for people facing difficult circumstances.

All money raised through the Wildfire Fund Drive will stay local and go toward helping people affected by the fires.

The goal is simple: give members of the community an easy way to help their neighbors when they need it most.

Live Coverage Friday

2 News Nevada and Reno Media Group will bring the fundraiser directly to viewers and listeners throughout the day.

2 News Nevada will provide live updates throughout the afternoon, including coverage during the noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. hours, along with additional coverage during the 4 p.m. newscasts.

Sarah Johns and Ryan Canaday will also bring viewers a live segment from the fundraiser during 2 Plus You Nevada in the 3 p.m. hour.

Reno Media Group stations will have live remotes from the Atlantis throughout the afternoon and evening, along with promotional spots and on-air conversations encouraging the community to take part.
