Kuwait's defense ministry says several American warplanes have crashed in the country. The circumstances weren't immediately clear but the announcement Monday came shortly after the U.S. Embassy compound was hit in an Iranian attack. Iran and Iranian-backed militias have been firing missiles at Israel and Arab states, while Israel and the United States have been pounding targets in Iran. The Lebanese militant group Hezbollah claimed strikes on Israel, which fired back, killing at least 31 people, and Gulf states warned that they could retaliate against Iran after strikes that hit key sites and killed at least five civilians.
